Synology has been offering its HDDs and SSDs under its own brand for some time. But until now, only some high-end models were compatible only with Synology drives.
This could be understood, since Synology wanted to guarantee the performance and overall quality of its solutions.
On the other hand, Synology has discreetly modified the compatibility of almost all of its range and no longer offers disk compatibility ONLY on the HAT53x0, SSD52x0 and the new HAT3300 ranges. The new HAT3300 replacing all Western Digital and Seagate drives for NAS.
The use of “non-compatible” discs releases Synology from any responsibility in the event of a malfunction.
Even the entry-level DS220J NAS is now only compatible on the HAT3300
It’s a risky strategy, and/or a desire to only serve the professional world, leaving the door open to QNAP.
